Description
Shimeji Mushroom Grain Spawn – 1Kg colonized rye grain spawn (may also contain amounts of millet). Growing Shimeji mushrooms at home can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience, offering a delicious addition to your culinary repertoire. Our ready-colonised Shimeji grain spawn will save you the time spent inoculating and incubating grain and make the final growing process much quicker. Your grain will be fully colonised prior to dispatch and in most cases the grain will already be broken up in the bag.
Please note that the photo used for this product is a generic photo of our colonised grain which has not been broken up, and not all mycelium looks the same. Once a block has been broken up, allowing us to split it into 1Kg bags, most of the white mycelium is no longer visible. This is normal!
Shimeji Grain Spawn is generally dispatched within 48 hours of order but, subject to availability, may take up to 14 days. In the event that a delay applies to an order, you will be contacted with details of the delay and offering you the chance to cancel your order if the delay is unacceptable.
Usage
Once delivered, customers should leave the grain bag untouched for a few days, to allow the grain to stabilise prior to use. Although colonized grain is fairly resistant to contamination, care must be taken when mixing with your chosen substrate to reduce exposure to unfiltered air, and to ensure the chosen container for the mix is dry and totally sterile. If the grain block has not been broken up prior to dispatch, or has started to create fresh ‘blocks’, carefully but firmly manipulate the bag to break the grain up until it consists of loose grain. If the bag is ‘tight’ gently pull apart the gussets at the top of the bag so that air is drawn in through the air filter without opening the bag.
The grain can then be mixed with your chosen substrate at the correct ratio in a sterile and fully sealable container to allow the mixture to fully colonise. This can take 3-6 weeks depending on mushroom type, storage environment, bag/container size and substrate type. Read here about inoculating substrates with Shimeji grain spawn. Storage: We recommend using your Shimeji Grain Spawn within a week, but if you need to store it for a longer period of time, keep it in a cool dark place for up to 1 month. Do not store below 4°C or close to freezer compartments in a fridge as too low a temperature can kill the mycelium.
